Maybach 62 Guard keeps the rich coddled from harm's way

Normally, when a manufacturer develops a version of one of their armored vehicles or SUVs, weight gain has been associated as a negative effect on the performance of the car. But with the new Maybach Guard, the premium division of Daimler says it has reduced to a minimum.

The negligible effect on the extra protection on the Maybach 62 is down to two factors: first and foremost was the Maybach twin-turbo V12, brakes and suspension components designed from the get-go to accommodate Armor increased, and is already saturated enough massive weight of the car, the extra height is relatively insignificant. Second reinforcement steel and Kevlar weighing less than 900 pounds all told - much less than if you took an existing model to an independent company, rather than specifying that it is equipped from the factory.

As a result, says Daimler Maybach 62 Guard can still accelerate from 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds and reach speeds of 155 mph to avoid the threat - electronically limited the level adopted by most German automakers.

Model Guard is also said to be almost indistinguishable to the naked eye is not protected by Maybach 62, so if you want to know how it looks, check out the recently revised model of the series in the gallery below. Official announcement in the press release after the jump.
